GHI Members with Cancer, Orthopedic and Musculoskeletal Conditions Have Access to Centers of Excellence

What are the Centers of Excellence?

GHI-CBP members with serious injuries or illnesses related to cancer or orthopedics and musculoskeletal conditions have access to the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) and Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS).

These hospitals and doctors are recognized for their care, research, training, and technology standards. They have locations throughout Manhattan, Long Island, Westchester, and New Jersey.

Who is eligible for the program?

GHI-CBP/Empire BCBS (PPO) plan Non-Medicare employees & Non-Medicare retirees of the City of New York are eligible for this voluntary program.

Will my benefits change if I go to a Centers of Excellence?

Benefits will remain the same, however, cost sharing associated with inpatient hospital admissions and outpatient hospital facility will be $0. Claims that Emblem Health processes will remain business as usual. Only claims that are currently processed by Empire BCBS will be impacted by the Centers of Excellence arrangement.

Do I need a referral to go to the Centers of Excellence?

GHI-CBP/Empire BCBS members do not require a referral.

What number do I call at the Centers of Excellence to schedule an appointment?

The member can be soft transferred or directed to MSK at 646-677-7111 or HSS at 877-606-1555

What if am already seeing a doctor, who is affiliated with a different hospital?

Please consult with your doctor.

I am currently receiving cancer treatment and my doctor says I need a transplant.

Please have your doctor contact Empire BCBS directly at (800) 255-0881 in regard to transplant benefits.
